Thesis: Acupuncture has some therapeutic benefits.
Purpose: To inform my audience of what acupuncture is, how it works, and the benefits that follow treatments.
I. How many of you know what acupuncture is?
A. Acupuncture is a 3,000-year-old healing technique of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
B. By understanding acupuncture, how it works, and what goes on during appointments, you’ll be more open to getting this sort of treatment.

C. After the needle is placed, your provider may roll the needle slightly back and forth. He or she may also use heat, pressure, or electrical current on the needle to further enhance effects.
D. Other acupoint stimulation techniques include: manual massage, moxibustion or heat therapy, cupping, and the application of topical herbal medicines and linaments.
E. In most cases, treatments last from 15 minutes to an hour and you may have several visits to complete your treatment. Frequency and number of treatments differ from person to person. Some people experience dramatic relief in the first treatment.
F. You probably want to know if it hurts and the answer is no. Acupuncture needles are very thin, and most people feel no pain or very little pain when they are inserted. You may feel slight pressure when the needle goes in. The area may tingle, feel numb, itch, or be a little sore. Providers believe that this is a sign that the energy flow, or chi, has been accessed.

III. Does It Work?
