Pollutants in our air today are very serious environmental problem. Besides other pollutions such as water, sound and land, air pollution affects us the most as we inhale and exhale them every single seconds. As living in an industrial era, we have familiar with terms such as smog, lead, ozone, and carbon monoxide. The news, newspaper and media have shown a lot of consequences of these pollutants that we have to face nowadays such as the haze. More and more regulations have been established and implemented to minimize the air pollutions such as vehicle emissions testing standards and pollutant emitting facilities standards. There are also big businesses that come out with an initiative to prevent air pollution. One example is a program created by the company 3M called Pollution Prevention Pays. The program is being done by preventing hazardous and toxic wastes in processes. They also redesign their equipment; and recover waste to reuse or recycle. Since 1975, 3M has been able to save over $537 million, while reducing its air pollution by 10,000 tons, its wastewater by one billion gallons and its solid waste by 410,000 tons (Hawken, 1993). As individuals, we can do our part to save the environment as well as ourselves. For example, we can take the bus or carpool, or any other method of mass transit instead of driving (Sittig, Marshall, 2002). One car may not make the different, but that car off the road may lead to two cars and maybe three. This will cut down on pollution made by cars each year, not to mention our gas money.
