Analyze And Explain The Work Of One Christian’s Agency Working For World Development

2195 words - 9 pages

Tearfund is a Christian aid organization, they work with various other churches to try and destroy poverty, transform unfortunate lives and bring integrity and equality in this world. It was unofficially started by numerous sympathetic Christians who decided to send funds to the Evangelical Alliance who sent gifts of money, clothing and food to refugees all around the world. Basically, The Evangelical Alliance was set up to manage the aid that needed to be given to refugees. Later on in 1968, the organization, Tearfund was officially started when they changed the name from The Evangelical Alliance Relief Fund to Tearfund.

When a natural disaster hits, it destroys their crops, shelter, causes heavy casualties and finally results in them having more expenses to pay off then they initially did.
Tearfund helps fight diseases in less developed countries for the reason that diseases such as AIDs and HIV trap the country in poverty, restrict growth and result in a lot of deaths among youngsters, like a child dying every three seconds which affects the future generation and development of that country. However, Tearfund doesn’t only help fight diseases for the physical benefits but also because they want to encourage faith in God as much as they can, seeing as they are a Christian charity organization. Thankfully, Tearfund doesn’t only help those suffering from terminal diseases such as AIDs, they are rather concerned by the amount of people that die due to preventable diseases such as diarrhea and malaria, it is estimated that practically 10 million children the majority below the age of five die from these types of preventable diseases which would have easily been solved in developed countries. One of Tearfund’s solutions to averting deaths from preventable diseases is trying to supply clean water and enhanced sanitation as they believe it is the source of theses preventable diseases. Educating children about hygiene as often is the case; less developed countries youth don’t receive education are also one of the solutions Tearfund is trying to put into action.
The reason for Tearfund trying to help poor countries with the drastic climate changes is because being Christians they follow the teachings to “love thy neighbor as thy self” and to care for God’s creations. Tearfund believes poor countries are impinged the most by the consequences of climate change which is mainly caused by rich countries; this means rich countries don’t love their neighboring countries because they’re causing disruptions and problems for them. Less developed countries suffer the most from climate change because they are the most reliable on their crops, because it’s often their only source of income or food.
Tearfund believes one of the solvable causes of economic inequality is the unfair trade present in this world; rich countries dominate the trade and decide the prices for the products produced by undeveloped countries. Tearfund’s solution for this problem is to provide a fair salary for workers who produce products being sold in developed countries.
A successful project Tearfund has launched would be “Created” or officially “Tear Craft” which basically provides various jobs in less developed countries and poor communities where workers are able to receive a fair pay which they can live on consistently. The jobs Tearfund provides are mainly to craft- people who under normal circumstances would not receive a reasonable pay. Tearfund has launched “Created” in 10 different counties, two associates in each country. The countries they work with include Bangladesh, Thailand and Peru which...
