Paper Writing Assistance
For all writing assignments at this university requires students to use the American Psychological Association (APA) 5th Edition style of format and source citation. APA manuscript style dictates how your paper should appear on the page. The papers you produce for most university classes will be final manuscripts. Unlike copy manuscripts, final manuscripts do not, unless specifically required by an instructor, require an abstract. Running heads are only required on published documents. Here are the direct quotes of information from the APA Style 5th ed. To support that there should be no running head on a manuscript document. “Running head for publication. An abbreviated title will be used as a running head for a published article. Type the running head flush left at the top of the title page (but below the manuscript page header) in all uppercase letters. Do not exceed 50 characters, including punctuation and spaces (APA, 2001, p. 296)”. “Running head for publication. The running head is an abbreviated title that is printed on the top of pages of a published article to identify the article for readers. The head should be a maximum of 50 characters, counting letters, punctuation, and spaces between words (APA, 2001, p. 12)”. Reference American Psychological Association. Please note* Microsoft Word will automatically space your paper using double spacing. To access this feature please use the “Format” selection on your MS Word pull down menu. Choose “Paragraph” and then “line spacing.” The horizontal spacing within an academic paper is one space between words within a sentence.
