Teaching Assistant Diploma Course
Describe how you might contribute to a lesson given to a group of seven year old children learning to play percussion instruments.
The role of the teaching assistant is to contribute to the lesson by supporting the teacher and providing a positive and effective classroom environment whilst helping to minimise unacceptable behaviour. My contribution to the lesson would be in the following ways.
* I would make sure I had good knowledge of the instruments prior to the start of the lesson. i.e. names of the instruments and how to use them all.

Then I would tidy the class room and make sure all areas are clean and tidy and hazard free ready for the next lesson to begin.
Describe how you act in class in order to be an effective role model for the standards of behaviour expected in pupils?
As a teaching assistant it is essential to be an effective role model and demonstrate consistency and predictability supporting the teacher. It is important to show the pupils respect at all times and using appropriate language and manners. Noticing when children are working hard and acknowledging it. But it is also important to notice if a pupil is struggling or behaving inappropriately and encouraging good behaviour, offering a reward chart or supporting the teaching putting a specific strategies in place to promote good behaviour. All the time encouraging pupils to concentrate on the task and work as individuals or as part of a team. Reminding pupils to follow the school rules and what is expected of them at all times.
What strategies might you employ to encourage pupils to behave properly to behave appropriately? Describe how you might react to incidents of bullying or violence.
