Australian Multiculturalism In The 21st Century: In Australia Of The 21st Century, "White Australia" Is Dead And Multiculturalism Rules. Discuss

497 words - 2 pages

Over 100 years after Federation, Australia has become a much greater place. Not only do we have 100 more years of technology and 100 more years of experience, but we have a multicultural society – something that relatively few other countries possess. When we walk on our streets, rather than seeing the uniformly coloured population that the White Australia supporters would have liked us to see, we see a blended, racial diversity that is a large step forward in human society. Of course, Australia isn’t a multiculturalism haven – racists and behind-the-times people still see skin colour as an important factor in determining how nice a person is, but Australia s a whole is proud of its multicoloured society. In today's society, the colour of your skin is as much an identifying feature as your height or the colour of your hair. If you take a trip into Sydney City, you aren’t able to walk on the street without seeing two people of different racial background. If you take a trip to places like Auburn or Leichhardt, sometimes you may think you’ve just teleported to another part of the world. Most of us have grown up in a multicultural society and most of us will die in a multicultural society. Australia has given us this, and Australia can continue to grow and act as a kitchen blender, as more races are thrown in. Racism will die, as everybody will be blended and surrounded by people of all different colours, making it extremely hard to wage war on anybody not of your own colour. Race and culture will be separated as colour will no longer be an identifier of your culture and beliefs. Rather than religious wars, religion will just be another part of someone, like their opinions on other matters.Obviously, “White Australia” is utterly dead, and multiculturalism is the new way. Australia can only continue to grow and develop this multicultural society, blending all humans as one people.
