ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT RIGHTS
Immigrants or people that come to this country by a means of crossing borders without checking in with the proper authorities is crossing illegally. Why are these people not checking in with the authorities? Is there something they are hiding? What are the motives that people are coming over the borders illegally? The definition of illegal is: contrary to or forbidden by law, especially criminal law. Illegal immigration is considered to be a civil matter rather than one of a criminal issue. I do not agree with this at all. People that come to this country must learn and speak English correctly. I don't go to another country and expect the residents to make exceptions to understand my language, so the same applies to those coming to America. I shouldn't have to learn their language when here in America the official language is English. "Post-1965 immigrants are less likely than immigrants during the middle 1900s to have entered the United States with high levels of proficiency in English" (Stevens, 2001: pgs. 186-187). There are 25 states that have "Official English" laws, and there are 25 states that currently do not. All states should require their residents primary language to be English; because should a resident from a state that doesn't demand the speaking of English move to one that does require then money and education would need to be provided to have a satisfactory outcome.
