Best Buy Co., Inc. is a multinational retailer, which provides consumer electronics, home office products, entertainment products, appliances and related services. The company operates through two business segments: Domestic and International. The Domestic segment is comprised of the operations in all states, districts and territories of the U.S., operating under various brand names, including but not limited to, Best Buy, Best Buy Mobile, Geek Squad, Magnolia Audio Video, and Pacific Sales. There are over 1,100 store locations in the US, Canada, Mexico, China, Puerto Rico, and Turkey. Best Buy has about 2,393 mobile phone stores in Europe and 305 standalone Best Buy mobile stores in the US. Best Buy Mobile stores are lot smaller than a full size Best Buy stores. Best Buy mobile are less than 2,000 square feet in size but a Best Buy store is around 30,000-40,000 square feet in size (Trefis, 2013).
Let's go over some of the Best Buy domestic and international brands which they have to offer.
Best Buy US:
Best Buy US offers video products, including televisions, e-readers, navigation products, digital cameras and accessories, digital camcorders and accessories, and DVD and Blu-ray players; and audio products, such as MP3 players and accessories, home theater audio systems and components, musical instruments, and mobile electronics comprising car stereo and satellite radio products. In addition, the company offers service contracts, warranties, computer-related services, and product repair, as well as delivery and installation services for home theaters, and mobile audio and appliances; and snacks and beverages (Best Buy, 2013).
In fiscal 2000, Best Buy established its first online shopping site, BestBuy.com. The Best Buy online shopping sites offer expanded assortments in all of the company's principal revenue categories (Best Buy, 2013).
Best Buy Mobile:
In 2006 Best Buy entered into a joint venture with UK mobile retailer Carphone Warehouse to enter in mobile business which made the Best Buy Mobile. Best Buy Mobile provides a comprehensive assortment of mobile phones, accessories and related services. As of December 31, 2008, 181 of Best Buy's 923 stores included a Best Buy Mobile store (Best Buy, 2013).
In 2003 fiscal year, Best Buy bought Geek Squad Inc., who are the provider of support and installation services. Geek Squad's services are available in all Best Buy stores(Best Buy, 2013).
Magnolia Home Theater:
Magnolia Home Theater stores provide Best Buy stores with high-end brands, home-like displays and specially trained employees. Magnolia Home Theater found in select Best Buy stores nationwide since 2004. At the end of 2008, the Magnolia Home Theater store-within-a-store experience was present in 346 U.S. Best Buy stores (Best Buy, 2013)
In 2006, Pacific Sales joined the Best Buy, a California-based company that specializes in the sale of high-end kitchen appliances, plumbing fixtures, home entertainment products and home furnishings, with a focus on builders and remodelers (Pacific Sales, 2013).
Speakeasy is a broadband internet service provider and VOIP carrier. Best Buy acquired Speakeasy in 2007 in believes that the acquisition will generate synergies by providing new technology solutions for its existing and future customers. In 2010 speakeasy was merged with Covad Communications and MegaPath Corporation(Wikipedia, 2010)
