With the understanding that God is the creator of mankind and that God created us in his own image, it is expected that every Christian should value life. Such a belief helps me be able to see everyone as special because they bare the image of God Himself. The core values of Christianity is that God is the source of life and also the sustainer of life. It is common for people, even Christians to forget that they bare the image of God and this leads to people living a life that does not please God. The belief that everyone bears God’s image will affect the way I relate with people and in my vocation.
The book of Genesis records the account of creation and clearly provides evidence that God created mankind in His own image. Genesis 1:27 records that God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them. The word ...view middle of the document...
This shows that the existence of mankind on earth is as a result of God’s breath. Furthermore, the book of Genesis explains that God took time to mold man and gave him the breath of life. Additionally, the gospel books show that Jesus came as a man but bearing the image of God. This shows how special and unique people are over other creations because they bare the image of God (Hoekema, 1994, pg. 54). This fact is very important to me especially with regards to the way I relate to people in my vocation. As a marketer, I am responsible of advertising and promoting products. It may be tempting to give false details to ensure that I make more sales. However, with the belief that mankind was created in God’s image, I should always be truthful because when I mislead people, I do not glorify God Himself. Additionally, I should treat people the way I would treat God himself if He would appear before me. According to the scripture in Hebrews 11:3, it is by faith that we understand that the world was framed by the word of God, and this means that all humanity is also God’s creation.
In conclusion, the belief that mankind was created in the image of God greatly affects the way I work and interact with people at my vocation as a trained claims adjuster. This fact means that I should treat people with a lot of respect and love. When I look at people, I should see the image of God. This does not however equate people to God but only shows that everyone, despite our personal uniqueness are made in God’s likeness. Being unfair to people or treating people badly means that one is not being true to God and does not live in the ways that a Christian is expected to live. When Jesus Christ was sent to save mankind, he came as a man but represented God (Berkouwer, 1962, pg. 76). This further confirms that mankind was created in the image of God.
