What Is Life?
Read each statement. Write a 100-word summary explaining how that media piece supports that statement and include reference citations.
1. Find a media piece—article, video, presentation, song, or other—related to the scientific method, creating hypotheses, or designing experiments. Include the link or reference citation for the piece and describe how it helped you better understand how the scientific method is used to create hypotheses and experiments.
2. Find a media piece—article, video, presentation, song, or other—that recognizes the fundamental concepts of chemistry in biology. Include the link or reference ...view middle of the document...
Body cells depend on insulin to get the needed glucose for energy. Insulin deficiency leads to glucose build up in the blood stream leading to organ failure. Since there is no means of getting glucose into the cells, there will be no energy and cell will become dysfunctional and die.
Biology and chemistry are interrelated, without understanding chemical component of a living organism, there will be difficulties in understanding certain behaviors of the organism. Biochemistry is the study of the chemical process in living organisms and this helps us understand the disease processes, pave way for disease prevention and cure. Reading the physiology of buffering system showed me the correlation between chemistry and biology as the living organism is unable to function properly due to alteration in the chemical compound of the body. Chemical imbalances in the cells lead to dysfunctional tissue and body systems. If not corrected immediately, death is imminent.
I belief there is no clear cut definition of life, depending on individual’s perspective, beliefs, religion and knowledge. After reading about chemical process within the cells, and as a biology student, I realized life is divided into cellular and non-cellular. The cellular life is divided into prokaryotes, archeans and Eukaryotes. The non cellular life includes viruses which are organisms of biological...
