3) An infant stomach is still developing causing it little more difficult for them to ingest and digest regular food such as regular milk.
With new health issues happening more and more to the infant being born now, breastfeeding will help decrease the chances of the child developing a number of things. “Studies indicate women who breastfeed their children decrease their children's risks for asthma, allergies, obesity, diabetes, respiratory and ear infections and sudden infant death syndrome. These babies tend to require fewer doctor visits and hospitalizations than bottle fed infants” (Medlock, 2013, para. 4) If that’s not good enough reasons, maybe this fact will help the decision to breastfeed a little easier. Breastfeeding is so important that, “The American Academy of Pediatrics' updated policy on breastfeeding published in February 2012 stressed the importance of exclusively breastfeeding infants until about six months of age, when complimentary foods can be introduced. The American Academy of Pediatrics continues to encourage breastfeeding for at least a year while the World Health Organization goes even farther and encourages breastfeeding until at least two years of age.” (Midelfort, 2013, para. 6) If you can’t breastfeed for a year try for just six months or maybe even a week to get to get that liquid gold know as colostrum. Every little breast milk is one step closer to a healthier baby.

That is enough about the benefits for the babies; time to get to the benefits for the mothers. The wellbeing of the mother is just as important as the child. There are a number of benefits that the mother has such as: weight lost, reduction of risk for cancers and depression, and breastfeeding is a great way to save money. There have been studies done that shows breastfeeding can lower the risk of a number of health issues in women, such as: breast cancer, ovarian cancer and postpartum depression. There is an Australian scientist who conducted a study where “the results showed those who breastfed a child for at least 13 months were 63 percent less likely to develop a tumor than those who did so for less than seven months.” ("Cancers," 2013, para. 6) Not only will breastfeeding lower the risk of many health issues, but also it can put the women back to her pre-pregnancy weight a lot faster than if she did not breastfeed. Breastfeeding promotes weight loss because it burns anywhere from 500 to 1500 calories per day. (Womenshealth.gov, 2010, para. 5) Women all over the world worry about their weight, the worrying about gaining and losing the weight gets ten times worse when a women finds out that she is pregnant. If this is a major concern, breastfeeding is made to help prevent certain health issues while losing weight in the process.
If these reasons are not good enough how about money? Breastfeeding can save the parents a lot of money in their pockets. In the article Pediatrics; Children’s Book Helps Breastfeeding Moms Save $1,500...
