Job Description
The IT Project Manager I position that I would like to apply for is with a company named Can-Tech. Can-Tech is the leading supplier of aeronautical personnel in Canada and the United States and a principal staffing service for manufacturing, logistics, IT and skilled trades. The main responsibility of IT Project Manager I position is to plan, execute and finalize projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. The Project Manager is responsible for defining project objectives and providing day-to-day coordination to ensure quality control throughout the project life cycle. The applicant must have excellent analytical skills with special attention to details and the ability to lead/facilitate cross-functional teams and meetings. Applicant should posse, the ability to meet tight deadlines. They must have the ability to work in a highly dynamic environment and successfully build teams and foster an atmosphere of collaboration. The applicant should have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work well with managers, directors, a diverse department, and a variety of internal and external customers. Work to resolve resource constraints by leveling resources in project planning activities. Work to secure funding from project sponsors for unbudgeted efforts. Identify/escalate issues as necessary. Applicant must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and excellent presentation design and delivery skills. A Masters degree may be used to offset one year of experience; PhD may offset two years of experience. Educational and or Experience requirements: Bachelors in CS, IS, related field, or equivalent combination of appropriate education and/or experience. Masters in Management or related field preferred. Seven years or more in an IT/IS environment. Extensive project management experience, Certified Project Manager (CPM) status and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred. Unique Skills: Experience managing Software Development projects preferred (www.careerbuilder.com)
Goal Setting
The challenging goals that I set for myself after I fill the Project Manager I position are important in motivating yourself to strive for high performance. I have to set goals in order to be successful in my new position. As a matter of fact, my entire live is goal oriented. According to the textbook, goal setting has four motivational aspects. First, goals direct attention. This will allow me to focus my attention to all the relevant and important details of my new position. Second, goals regulate effort. Regulating my efforts will motivate me to do what is necessary to be a high achiever in my new position. Third, goals increase persistence. I have the mindset that there is no room for failure. I will stay persistent and if I need help, I will not be afraid to ask for it. Lastly, goals foster strategies and action programs. My goal is not only to be the best Project Manager at Can-Tech, but gain as much experience and knowledge as I can, so that I can be rewarded, either monetarily or with promotions (Hellriegel & Slocum, 2011). According to Hellriegel and Slocum, because goals make clear the type and level of performance expected, this may improve performance. Setting goals that are SMART goals: Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Relevant and Time Bound can help. By being specific, my goals will be exact and well defined.
