2 Suppose you were preparing two-way tables of percent- ages for the following pairs of variables. How would you run the percentages?
a Age and consumption of breakfast cereal.
Histogram- Ages are the assigned values and columns based off percentage for the type of cereal
b Family income and confidence about the family’s future.
Pareto- It will take income and base confidence and will measure everything to 100% equality.
c Marital status and sports participation.
Cross Tabs- This works because there are in essence two variables to measure that coincide at random intervals
d Crime rate and unemployment rate.
Histogram or Cross Tab- histogram can make two columns one for crime ...view middle of the document...
In addition if the research is discrete and confidential, what guarantees the consumer has that this information is truly anonymous, what safeguards are actually in place.
3 Describe the sampling plan. Analyze its strengths and weaknesses.
It seems like a random sampling divided into groups and categories(7 industries and 6 explicit jobs). Once the mailers were made they were sent out to 4,000 individuals.
The strengths are the number of potential samples and the depth of the categorizing.
The weakness is overall usable response and overall delivery method with outdated services by mail.
4 Describe the research design. Analyze its strengths and weaknesses.
The fact that Penton initially trialed questions and refined them for the final mailer suggests the basis for initial research and secondary questioning, this accounts for first hand research as well as secondary, however the questions could be (mis)leading people down a path to directed answers therefore it is not totally unbiased.
5 Critique the survey used for the study.
I feel it was an epic fail, based on 4,000 mailers and the limited number of usable returns suggest there is a flaw somewhere, perhaps the type of distribution or the relevance of the survey to begin with. If so little people respond with the effort put into the project it seems to me highly unlikely that there would be successful results either in relevancy or finance through leads.
6 Prepare the survey for analysis. Set up the code sheet for this study.
