Communication has existed since the beginning of time. Planets communicate through the effects of their environments. Animals communicate through behavior and sound. Plants communicate through releases of pollen and the process of germination, and the list goes on. Communication between humans has been and is still through many forms. Progression of such forms has led to many new trends in business communication today.

Comcast requires ongoing training through an internal website with online training modules and I am required to complete the courses on a regular basis. Constant communication transpires during this ongoing process of training. I learned a great deal about the history of the company, the expectations of the company going forward, and the expectations of my position. I understand what is expected of me and the rules by which I must fulfill that expectation. Weekly sales meetings are required each Tuesday morning. I receive new written information of any changes in expectations or procedures and written and verbal information as to what prices I may offer for each product I sale. I am required to give a verbal report of sales made the previous week and written order forms for each sale must be turned in at this meeting. Ideas and frustrations are discussed, brainstorming is done as to possible solutions to problems, and work plans for the next week are decided. The communication with management and coworkers helps to plan what area I will work in, what offers I will present, and what my daily goals must be to achieve month end quotas.
Communication with management and coworkers does not stop at the weekly meeting. Emails go out daily with new sales contest, new product offerings or price changes, or general company information. Emails and text messages are used to ask questions from the field and receive answers as well. Written information is still provided regarding employee benefits, company information, and sometimes, general information through the mail. Of course, information is still communicated with the process of a phone call as well.
I must take my understanding of my job from classrooms and meetings into the field and communicate information to the public. Each door I knock on offers an opportunity to communicate appreciation to current customers, sell additional services to current customers, resolve problems for current customers, change pricing structure for current customers, or acquire new customers.
