Legislation is law. Legislative is a very important role in the parliament house. Legislation is the process of making the law. Legislation is a term which refers to laws called the acts or also statues endorsed by parliament (Global, 2012). In the Parliament of Australia there are two houses the lower house and the upper house. The lower house is the Legislative Assembly or in the states it is referred as house of Assembly and in the commonwealth the lower house is the House of Representatives. Then the upper house which in the state is referred as the legislative council and in the Commonwealth it is called the senate. As in Australia there are six states and two Territories meaning there is a different legislature for each state and territory and then there is the main Legislature meaning there are a total of nine legislatures in Australia (Global, 2012). The commonwealth Parliament is the main Legislature and for the states legislature it is Parliament of and the name of the ...view middle of the document...
Senators have the power to make the laws with the House of Representatives (Parliament of Australia, 2015). The role of the Senate is to review and keep a powerful check on the government of the time (Parliament of Australia, 2015). Then we also have the house of representative where the house has 150 members. Each member of the 150 member represents an electoral division and the boundaries of them are adjusted from time to time so each member contains equal numbers of electors (Parliament of Australia, 2015). The roles of house of representative are making laws, determining the government, publicise and scrutinises government administration, representing the people and controlling government expenditure. Where the laws are made is the Parliament, there is a process for the law to be made and the process is that bill has to pass three readings in each of two houses the upper and the lower of the parliament and then receive Royal Assent. So first there is the proposal which is the bill the Drafting of the bill which goes onto the lower house first then to the upper house then there is the Royal Assent and then finally is the commencement of the law (James, 2014). There are new laws been made all the time by the government and the reason for new laws can be to make Australia safer for the people, for example is the roads in Australia as there are so many roads laws for the road user in Australia because there are so many accidents everyday all around Australia and to prevent the accidents Australian Parliament is always looking into intervening to make road as safe as possible for road users so less accidents happens and less people die from road accidents every day.
