The mission statement Microsoft has defined for its self is: “to help people and businesses throughout the world realize their full potential.” ("About microsoft,") In addition to aspiring to fulfill their mission statement they also uphold a set of core values. These values are practiced by the employees as well as the company as a whole. Bill Gates continues to serve as Microsoft’s CEO while co-founder Paul Allen resigned in 1983 after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease.
Today Microsoft has grown into an international national corporation earning almost $70billion and employing 93,163 individuals. They have grown into having 8 divisions each offering its own variety of products. These divisions occupy a total of 643 different locations throughout the world.
Microsoft has grown from a small two man company that produced the first operating system for personal computers to a large, international, thriving, multi-billion dollar corporation that is now organized into 8 subdivisions. While they continue to develop, manufacture, and distribute operating systems for personal computers they also produce them for businesses. Microsoft has also added large variety of word processing and productivity software. They have also branched out into other technologic fields and have produced its own smart phones, video gaming platforms, and digital music players. These are only a few of the many accomplishments they have successfully added to their brag sheet.
Microsoft offers a large variety of products within the fields of technology. They have broken up their products into eight sub-fields. They are: Online Services Division, Server and Tools Business, Microsoft Business Solutions, Microsoft Office Division, Interactive Entertainment Business, Windows Phone Division, Windows & Windows Live Division, and Skype. There are a variety of products that are offered within these various categories. The Online Services division is responsible for personal communication services as well as online information through products such as Bing and MSN. The Server and Tools Business Division oversees various infrastructure software and developer tools as well as Microsoft’s new venture into the Cloud platform. Microsoft Business Solutions division oversees software such as
Microsoft Health Solutions and Microsoft Dynamics products. Productivity software such as Microsoft Office, Exchange, Share Point and Visio fall under the Microsoft Office Division. The Interactive Entertainment Business division is responsible for products such as the popular Xbox360 video gaming platform, Kinect, the large library of available games for these systems as well as for the Zune digital music player. As its name implies the Windows Phone Division is responsible for the development, marketing, productions, and distribution of Windows Phones worldwide. All Windows versions, Windows Live and Internet Explorer fall under the Windows & Windows Live Division.
The last and most recently acquired division is the Skype division. This division over sees the Skype software and network allowing a variety of communication options from computers, laptops, tablets, smart phones and other mobile devices.
