Cause and Effects of Alcoholism and Smoking

I wrote my essay on alcohol and cigarettes and addiction and how it correlates and the cause and effects of it. I wrote how alcohol when used in excess can cause problems in your life. And also how cigarettes have their own factors of harm to your life and how addiction plays a role in this. Alcohol for one may seem not so harmful at first. Almost everyone drinks alcohol and does it without harming themselves to an extent. But there are some out there who drink alcohol to an excess which causes them health problems, such as failed liver, insufficient GI track and among others. Many people drink for many reasons but the effects are often overlooked by many people. Alcohol is a drug which is used by many people of various ages and ethnic backgrounds. It can have serious effects but not many people realize this. Some people drink a lot and become addicted to it, the alcohol effects part of the brain which controls all the decision making, the outcome of this is loss of inhibitions. It also affects the physical side which causes blurred vision and loss of balance. Drinking excess amount of alcohol at once is known as binge drinking which has serious effects such as unconsciousness, coma and death. Alcoholics start out or develop alcoholism with one drink and continue until the point of intoxication. Many cases start with the social drinking status, which then develop into heavy drinking. In addition to social drinking, peer pressure plays a big role in the development of alcoholism. In today’s society, many younger adults are peer pressured into taking that first drink and then continuing drinking while they attend different events and parties.
Alcoholism is one of the major problems in society. The effects of this disease are really serious. Many people get used to drinking alcohol, smoking, and they can easily abuse it. The first effects of alcoholism are physical. These are the most important because these can cause your death. For example, alcoholism causes cancer in the stomach, kidneys, and liver. Besides, alcohol alters the digestion of nutrients that the body needs to stay healthy. Alcoholism also causes severe damage in the neurons, so it causes alterations in the body movements, loss of appetite, and depression. There are other effects in the body like gastritis and cirrhosis of the liver. All these physical consequences could cause your death if you drink alcohol in excess quantities. The other effects caused by alcoholism are psychological. At the beginning, alcohol makes you feel relaxed, but if you drink it in excess, it increases anxiety and causes depression. It also causes family and legal problems, violence, changes of behavior, suicide, and among others. Alcohol is very dangerous and alters all your normal behaviors. In most cases of alcoholism, the problem occurs when a person cannot cope with everyday life. That person uses alcohol to treat and medicate their problem without realizing the harm...
