The different types of lodging properties are: hotels, motels, all-suites, limited services hotels, and extended-stay hotels. Hotels range from small, budget hotels, middle range hotels and motels, to luxury hotels (including resorts).

This and the brands are working, as traveling is increasing. In June, 2012, The U.S. Travel Association reported travel is growing twice as fast as overall exports (Shillinglaw, 2012). Brands are the tools used by a hotel company to create a concept in the mind of a consumer which helps consumers classify a hotelâ€™s offerings.
Some reasons a person may choose one lodging over another are:
Having a favorite hotel chain they always use;
If it is close to their business or amusement destination;
If it has, or is close to restaurants;
If they have a nice pool area;
If it is eco-friendly (non-toxic cleaners, linen re-use, re-cycling â€“ including graywater), if it is Leed Certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).
