Communication in business is one of the most important life skills in and around the work force. So what makes a communication successful and unsuccessful? And what techniques and models should be employed to utilize this skill? This is a suitable communication model because it is a two way interactive process (Dwyer, 2009) that is fitting for dealing with the individual office worker. The manager represents the sender in the communication model, who will need to be able to communicate self concept, culture, skills, feeling, attitudes and values and the receiver who is the office worker would be able to provide feedback. The following paragraph will mention how the manager should implement the process model to rectify the situation. The following paragraph will discuss several solutions to deal with the office worker.
In the case we know that the manager was aware of the employees behavior early on, therefore the behavioral misconduct has to be addressed when the employee first began misbehaving. These are some solution to the case. To utilize the process model, the sender (the manager) would have to choose his mode of communication, in this instance verbally and written. Firstly when he observes or hears about the office worker’s behavioral misconduct the employee is immediately put aside and is notified of this misconduct verbally (Mee, 2011), the manager might mention that this type of behavior is inappropriate because this discredits the workplace’s professionalism and that it may be disrespectful to other people. He may also mention that his behavior affects how other see him as a professional, and that it can be an occupation health and safety hazard.
After the addressing the situation verbally, a follow up should ensure that the employee behaves accordingly. If there still is a problem, then the manager should provide a written warning notifying that continual misconduct will result in termination. Next, as a prevention precaution an office meeting should be held, going through the company’s policies and work ethics.
Employing these communication techniques provides a solution that will stop the situation into escalating into an occupation health and safety hazard.
Implications comes with every communication model so it is particularly important That the manager is aware of the flaws that come with the process model of communication, According to the Business Communication study guide the things the manager has to be aware of are “lack of attention or honing of message, Receiver’s inattention- giving the message at the wrong place at the wrong time, Poor collateral materials, cultural difference, and disconnection from prevailing leadership and management styles and/or lack of cohesion.”(Mee, 2011) The Manager has to be fully aware of these points before executing the process of communication model to ensure that his message is received successfully.
