I have always been a capable communicator when it comes to my work but when it comes to my personal life I am not so good. The approach I use at work being straight forward and to the point is not so good at home when communicating with my wife. She tells me all the time that I need to think before I say it. I am very good with employees by listing to them and communicating my instructions to get a job done. I tend to communicate with a blunt and to the point approach with a clear approach when at work. I have found that employees want to know what the message is and not to beat around the bush. When being direct all the time it is hard to switch that off when you’re at home. I found that it is good for me to set goals and work towards these goals will help me find my self-confidence. This is surprised my wife in that she fells I am very self-confident to a point as she like to say cocky.
Experiencing Burnout:
I have experience at burnout. I spent the past 15 years as a production manager for large class 8 truck builder. At any one time I would be responsible for up to 70 employees. This was a high pace job that put demands on my time, I would work long hours and most weekends. This left little time for my family and myself. I found that I grew less patient with my employees and my family. It had gotten to a point I was experiencing chest pains and had to be admitted to the hospital for testing. That is when I decided to make a career change. I found an opportunity to take a new position with my company that got me out of the plant environment working with our dealer group and customers.
