The purpose of this essay is to compare the similarities and differences between five different communities. Represented are Bland County, Virginia, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dunedin, Florida, Rio Vista, California, and Washington, D.C. The definition of community according to Bartle (2012) is, “The concept of community is a set of interactions, human behaviors that have meaning and expectations between its members. Cedar Rapids, Bland, and Rio Vista work forces focus more on the agricultural industry; whereas Dunedin and Washington, D.C. focus on tourism to provide income for the communities.
These communities are dependent on the citizens to keep them growing. It appears that the more a person contributes to a community, the more the community will give back, and this can help build a rewarding and satisfying life. An individual’s social responsibility to a community can be as unique and different as the individual themself. “Striving for social responsibility helps individuals, organizations and governments have a positive impact on development, business and society with a positive contribution to bottom-line results.” ("Asq," 2012) The contribution can be employing locals from the community to keep the funds within the same community to volunteering, and even recycling. It is also a social responsibility to elect the appropriate officials to put services and processes in to place that support the community. It is evident that these communities work closely together for good of all.
