Why do you think a CIO survey is important for the HMIS industry?

The role of a CIO requires a professional leader that is able to have different skills to do this job. One of the most important skills is communication, the abilities to communicate with others is essential for this role. Another skill is being a good leader by earning respect and trust of the organization. A good essential point of a CIO is to learn from his/her own mistakes and understand that sometimes it is not possible to make things happen the first time; thus to learn from those mistakes to their advantage. With this economy there have been changes and budgetary constraints. Because of these changes employees have a hard time to focus on their job, and this when a CIO has to step in by bringing in new ideas and able to explain to employees the central issue of the changes.

It is important to understand HMIS applications work and how the IT department uses these applications. This process is very complex in the health care organizations and it is the root of IT failures in health care industry. (REFERENCE). If these roots are not well understood by a CIO the problem may get worsen causing unnecessary expenses, therefore a good hardware investment has to be considered. Prior to purchase any hardware, a business plan should be taken in consideration to find out how cost effective is going to be and to take in consideration that there will be additional components to run the hardware. The type of hardware that should be considered to HMIS future is data security. According to IT professionals patient’s information among hospitals is not secure enough to say that patient’s personal information can not be stolen. In comparison to the survey this information was selected by eighty four percent of participants. The number of people that are not concern about their information is very few therefore it will be a good investment for hospitals to be able to offer to patients. Even though hospitals have security regulations in compliance with HIPAA, it is not enough to catch the attention of patients. Sometimes people do not realize how important it is their personal information. For example, there have been cases where patient’s social security number has been stolen and it has been used by somebody else to do improper things that have cost patient’s money and time to proof that their information was stolen. This information was selected as primary concern according to the survey.
