It has more to do with how the teacher interacts with his or her students these can be positive or negatively portrayed. An example of informal curriculum is sports or extra curriculum activities.Hidden curriculum deals with behaviour and building personal relationships. Its is not seen as part of the school acquirement but they are still taught to students, however not directly given. The hidden curriculum can be negative, positive, constructive and also subversive and this is the only one that is not taught in the school, the students pick this up on their own via their attitude to learn.These three curriculums differ as informal curriculum relates to things other than teaching such as extra out of school activities and are there to build up self esteem of students. We see that formal curriculum tends to things in the classroom and really in the lesson plan and syllabus, it depends on constant revision and learning. Hidden curriculum however can reinforce or contradict the formal curriculum because they are things that are learned unintentionally.I will be formulating a literacy curriculum for grade 1 primary classrooms using the classical approach steps of the formal curriculum. Literacy is the ability to read and write and to express once self through language.The first step in developing a formal curriculum is diagnosis of needs this is where the teacher identifies everything he or she will need for the curriculum. The teacher will find out the main issues and needs of the particular target area. In this case the grade 7 literacy class the teacher will look and determine what the grade 1 class needs to know, what level they should be at and what he or she will be teaching in order to get them learning literacy at the expected level. Also the teacher needs to keep exams in mind when decided what needs to be taught. The teacher also needs to keep in mind the needs of the society, institutions and not just the grade 1 literacy class. Teachers should ready and study grade 1 age group developments to get an understanding of how they learn and they could conduct interviews with each student parents.The second step is formulation of objectives, this need to be relevant to the subject area and grade, these objectives can come from the curriculum themselves and ones that the teacher feels will benefit the students. The objectives should be listed with most important at the top. Teachers can meet this step by knowing how children learn.For the grade 1 class the teacher needs to decide what objectives will be important. Objectives are the desired outcome from what has been taught. But this is the stage the teacher is deciding what objectives should be used.The third step is selection of content; this is the step where teachers determine what is important to teach and what is not in terms of the content area. The teacher needs to be familiar with the literacy curriculum for this step to be effective....
