Diversity On Long Island Essay

681 words - 3 pages

Long Island also known as a diverse community to many people helps many of us come more aware of other cultures and religions. Having a combination of different religions and life living together makes us more known to the world. We as an island surrounded of millions of people don’t appreciate the unique and wonderful things that are being given to us. Others like tourists or people from all around the world might not feel the same way though. In many nations around the world people don’t get to experience the social interactions and bandings one might get to feel and understand.

Living with different kinds of cultures around you is also very knowledgeable to many people. One could learn a lot about someone’s background or country just by interacting or spending some time with them. Our communities will be separated into different sections according to there race and the color of there skin. There would be towns for only white people and towns for blacks, Spanish , Muslim, and many others. If our communities were sorted out that way people would hardly know about what kinds of people are living in the world.

Sometimes with so many ethnic cultures people start to judge others by what religion the are from and not the kind of person they are. For example, sine 9/11 people have started to treat many Muslims differently because they think what had happened with the Twin Towers was the fault of all Muslims. Just because some people made a bad decision every person of that religion has to suffer. Its wrong of people to just judge others by there appearance or there culture. They have to understand that not everyone is the same. Every person has there own train of thought. Whatever the reason might be for those people to do such a thing people should try to understand and find the reason why maybe those people did what they did.

Multiculturalism can also be seen through marriage and various relationships. Through out my life I have seen a lot of my friends have parents that both come from different cultures. For them its more exciting because they can learn a lot about two different countries through there parents. There parents might present them with unique qualities of food that maybe even one of the parents haven’t tasted or heard of. I think the best thing about having parents from different religions is the clothing. Having a good fashion sense of how people dress from other countries can be beneficial to those who have a an interest in fashion or just want to be upgraded on what the fashion sense is around the world.
No matter what you are or what you represent its all something to be very proud of. Every person in the world has something that different about them and one of the thing is religion and culture. Every person has different values and beliefs they follow. You can have similarities with the person of your religion but when you get out to the real world you can see the numerous kinds of cultures.
