Everyone knows at least one person that has been or is addicted to drugs in some way, whether it be cigarettes, alcohol, or illegal drugs. Although, not many of those people ever look past the addiction and wonder why. I’m going to lean more towards the alcohol and illegal drugs that people are addicted to and try to get past the actual problem and try to explain the reasons behind it. It has been proven that most addicts are addicted because of childhood issues and traumatic experiences they never got past.

On a positive note, experts estimate that around 30% of people who have problems with alcohol (not severe alcoholics) are able to reduce their alcohol consumption or abstain completely from alcohol without receiving professional help. I have seen in some situations where many alcoholics are the way they are because of the environment they grew up in and their parents were alcoholics. Many alcoholics also become very abusive and angry people because of the feelings and inner issues they are trying to hide and then it begins to build up and they just break and explode on whoever happens to be around. That’s just my look on it with situations I have seen. Alcoholism leads to liver cancer and have seen many cases where addicts get cirrhosis of the liver and die because the alcohol was more important.
Another serious drug addiction is prescription drugs. I know several people personally that have become addicted to prescription drugs because they got in car accidents or other very serious injuries and doctors prescribed them a very strong drug. They became dependent on this drug and immune to it, therefore the same dosage no longer worked for the pain they were in and started taking more and more until they now no longer got prescribed enough from the doctor and began buying them off the streets. There is also many cases that I have heard of and seen where people are addicted to prescription drugs because their parents took them as they grew up and that was their answer to everything.
