Tolkien served in the world war I he was at the oxford English dictionary he worked on the history of words of Germanic origin beginning with the letter W. Later he took up as a reader in English languages at the University of Leeds and he became the youngest professor there. Also during his time at Pembroke collage Tolkien wrote the hobbit and first two the hobbit and the first two volumes of the lord of the rings he joined the faculty of the University of Leeds in 1920 than a few years later he became professes of Oxford University there they started a group called the linking also while grading a paper that he spontaneous wrote a short line about “ a hobbit” he wrote
