The indiscriminate discharge of solid waste, domestic and hospital sewage are the major source of water pollution in Bangladesh. About 4,000 to 4,500 tons of solid wastes are generated daily and only half of the generated wastes are disposed of in low lying areas or into river water. More than 500 hospitals and clinics of Dhaka city generate and release hazardous and toxic wastes without any treatment. Besides, most of the water in Bangladesh contains arsenic which is poisonous to health. Since the water comes from the underground pipeline, it is not clean. According to carebd.org about 80 million people are exposed to high level toxicity to be cure and often turn into diseases from skin and internal organs. In the villages many people have wells that are not deeper and the wells are not clean often. Their water is unhealthy and is not purified. Arsenic has become an issue that is used to murder people. Only few people are able to afford filter to filter out the germs and arsenic.
Global UGRAD Program will help me to serve others of having a healthy life. This program will teach me as an individual of how to become a leader and develop leadership skills on what I have developed. Since Leadership is the main focus point of this program, I can be well trained and come back to my country and try to resolve the problems. These skills can be productive when I find out ways to help people in Bangladesh get healthy and clean water. Coming up with the ideas and taking a step will show me that I can make a change. Since this program is about globalization and how to make our home country a better place to live, I can learn about decreasing water pollution and start an organization to resolve this problem and train others what I will learn from UGRAD program so that they can be enthusiastic to help people to get rid of the water pollution and other environmental pollutions.
