Erich Maria Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front and Mary
Shelley's Frankenstein shows how the change in society has an effect
on people. But they both take different methods of showing it. All
Quiet on the Western Front shows how war takes the lives of others and
the effects on people during the war.Frankenstein, even though it is
fictional, tells a story of a distraught dream of science by
artificial means of life. Both stories have different effect
surrounding each character want and needs throughout the plot. First,

A few of the symbols in All Quiet on the Western Front where the boots
of other men that dies in World War I and the life of what they missed
at home. A pair of boots showed the loss of a fellow soldier as a way
to move on. It leave behind that though that this was a man that died
here, not a pawn that is uses for war. Also, the boots stood for a
friendship that other soldier might have had for him. This friendship
was mostly used to keep the soldier with a stronger mental state to
help them through out the war, which gives them a stronger scene of
survival. They also think about their life without war. They remember
what they had before the war and wish they could enjoy the things that
they had to go to World War I. They look back upon shatter dreams
knowing that it cannot be reached.
Frankensteintakes place in the 18th century England. Victor
Frankenstein has his thoughts clear to make his own living creation.
Victor works months on end to make this creation. Not taking in the
factors of what could happen if this creation was brought out to
society. Victor doesn't see this problem of creating life and bring to
an unknown world. He also did not see this problem in creating a
living object. Victor, making such a horrible creation, rejects it.
His act of god changes society in different factors. The novel
demonstrates the judgmental nature of man. The monster wants to be a
part of society. But, he is not accepted, he feared by society and
even beat up. Victor was used to set an example of not to mess with
nature and not to play God. When Victor creation broke free, he knew
that he was going to suffer whatever problems it caused. Frankenstein
received a letter concerning his younger brother William and how he
was murder. He assumed that his creation had did this, for he knew
nothing else could do this. But a family friend, Justine Moritz, was
assumed to be the murderer and Victor wanted to find the guilty party.
After Justine had been sentenced to death, Victor found his creation.
It confessed that he killed William. His creation knew that by killing
his brother he would get back at what Victor put him through by giving
him life and with his unfortunate happening with society. Victor lost
loved ones and other things that were important to him.
Most of the main characters in Frankenstein have a want for a strong
friendship. The creature wants a strong relationship with people. But
society treats him like an outcast for his horrible looks, which in
turn drive him to hate the society he was forced into. These
conditions of the monster lead directly into chaos. When the monster
finds out that there is nothing he can do about it he takes out his
anger on the society that is around him causing mass destruction and
distorting societies beliefs. Buy not being accepted it had no
understanding of how it should act in the society it was around. So,
