Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind is a romantic drama starring Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kristen Dunst, Elijiah Wood, and Mark Ruffalo. Joel is finding it hard to get over his failed relationship with his ...view middle of the document...
Clementine is a middle aged woman with the spirit of a twenty one year old, with a personality that has a lot of spunk and self identity. Clementine dresses according to her own style and changes her hair color weekly.
Even though Clementine and Joel were two different people with very little in common, they still managed to fall in love. In the movie it is not exactly clear when Clementine fell out of love with Joel, but she does.
Clementine finds herself bored with Joel. Instead of confronting Joel about how she felt, the relationship ends. Clementine then decides to have all the memories of Joel erased from her mind. The staff that perform the procedure for memory erasing are also miserable selfish and untruthful. They are a important part of the movie because they provide a unforeseen twist.
The plot seems very intriguing and clever. However being that most of the movie is going on inside Joel’s mind, establishing between what is real and what is all in his head can be hard to do. At times the movie goes from past to present, making it hard to follow. Using this approach can confuse the movie viewer.
The movie takes place in uptown New York. With such a beautiful state to shoot in, the appearance of the physical location of the film was anything but romantic. The setting of the screens always seemed dull and lifeless. The average screen was in shoot in a trashy low class dirty apartment or in the snow. The lighting is dim and not very much color is used. The winter setting gives off a sad feeling rather than romantic. The wardrobe of the cast is also a turn off. Long jackets and mittens are far from romantic. The average outfit worn looked as if it was donated by the good will.
In the same token Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind has an original plot and concept making this movie a must see.
