Ang Florante at Laura ni Francisco Baltasar (na kilala din bilang Balagtas) ay isang obra-maestra sa panitikang Pilipino. Daglat lamang ang katawagangFlorante at Laura sapagkat binigyan ito ng aktuwal at buong pamagat na:
“ Pinagdaanang búhay ni Florante at ni Laura sa kahariáng Albanya: Kinuhà sa madláng cuadro histórico o pinturang nagsasabi sa mg̃á nangyari nang unang panahón sa imperyo ng̃ Gresya, at tinulâ ng̃ isáng matuwaín sa bersong Tagálog.

Isa itong mahabang tulang itinuturing na pinakamahalaga sa lahat ng mga korido[1] (corridos[2]) sa Pilipinas noong ika-19 dantaon, ayon kay Fray Toribio Minguella, isang paring Rekolekto[3] at pilologo[4][5]

Paglalarawan
Pangunahing tagpuan ng Florante at Laura ang madilim na gubat ng Quezonaria, at ang nagsasalaysay ay mismong si Florante, habang nakikinig naman ang muslim na si Aladdin. Batay ang pagsasalaysay ng tauhan ng kuwentong si Florante mula sa sariling karanasan at kasawian ni Francisco Baltasar, sapagkat nakulong ang huli dahil sa bintang ni Mariano Kapule (kaagaw ni Selya) at kawalan ng katarungan - si Maria Asuncion Rivera o MAR - ay napakasal kay Mariano Kapule o Nano Kapule, na isang karibal sa pag-ibig. Isinulat ni Baltasar ang Florante habang nasa piitan.
Buod
Nagsimula ang kuwentong patula sa isang madilim na kagubatan. Nakatali si Florante, isang taga-kaharian ng Albanya, sa isang puno ng Higera, habang namimighati sa pagkawala ng kaniyang amang si Duke Briseo. Halos ikabaliw niya ang pagkakaisip na mapasakamay ng kaaway niyang si Konde Adolfo ang kaniyang minamahal na si Laura. Anak si Konde Adolfo ni Konde Sileno.
Narinig ng isang moro, na naglalakbay noon sa kagubatan, ang mga pagtangis ni Florante. Aladin ang pangalan ng moro, na naantig ng mga pananalita ni Florante. Dalawang mga gutom na liyonang biglang umatake kay Florante subalit naligtas ni Aladin ang binata. Nawalan ng malay tao si Florante. Nagpasya si Aladin na pangalagaan si Florante hanggang sa manumbalik ang lakas nito.
Nang lubusang gumaling si Florante, nagulat siya noong una nang mapagmasdan ang morong si Aladin. Hindi siya makapaniwalang ang isang kalaban ng mga Kristiyano ang kaniyang naging tagapagligtas sa tiyak na kamatayan. Matapos ang ilang mga pagpapaliwanag, naging lubos ang pasasalamat ni Florante kay Aladin, at dito siya nagsimulang magsalaysay hinggil sa kaniyang buhay. Bilang anak ng isang prinsesa at ng isang tagapag-payong maharlika, lumaking masiyahin at puno ng pagmamahal at kalinga si Florante. Sapagkat mahilig ngang maglaro noong may anim na gulang pa lamang, muntik na siyang mapaslang ng isang buwitreng nagtangkang dumagit sa batong hiyas na nasa dibdib ni Florante. Sa kabutihang palad, nasagip siya ng pinsang siMenalipo, isang mamamana mula sa Epiro.
Sa edad na 11, ipinadala si Florante ng kaniyang mga magulang - na sina Duke Briseo at Prinsesa Floresca – sa Atenas, Gresya upang mag-aral sa ilalim ng kilalang guro na si Antenor. Sa Atenas niya natagpuan si Adolfo, na nagmula rin sa bayan ni Florante. Si Adolfo ang pinakamatalinong mag-aaral sa paaralan nang mga panahong iyon, subalit makaraan lamang ang anim na taon, nalampasan na ni Florante ang mga kakayahan, kagalingan at katalinuhan ni Adolfo. Nagtamo ng katanyagan at pagkilala si Florante, na lubhang hindi ikinatuwa ni Adolfo.
