Forecasting with Indices

University of Phoenix Online

April 18, 2011

Ohidul Siddiqui

The data that I used to gather my information was from the University of Phoenix website “The Summer Historical Inventory Data”. As you can see the data that was provided covers twelve months over a four year period. What I did was I took the average of each year, which was adding the demand of each of the months and dividing that by twelve which in return gave me the average. (See below spreadsheet)

|Month |Year 1 |Year 2 |Year 3 |Year 4 |Average |

|11 |$21,400.00 |$39,300.00 |$31,790.00 |$16,800.00 |$27,322.50 |
|12 |$17,100.00 |$10,300.00 |$31,100.00 |$18,900.00 |$19,350.00 |
|Total |$457,350.00 |$487,030.00 |$537,620.00 |$550,750.00 |$508,187.50 |

After getting the average of the four years I took the average of the 4 years and divided that by the average of each month which in return gave me the Index. (See chart below)

|Month |Average | Index |
|1 | $ 39,600.00 | 0.935088 |
|2 | $ 37,080.00 | 0.875582 |
