In the early 1900s there was a director of a coal mine named Henri Fayol who wrote a book about management, in which he set forth to discuss his five distinctive functions of managing. The book, “Administration Industrielle et Generale,” detailed the original management functions. From these original details, the process school of management was born. Christopher shares how the four functions of management is executed through his current project a Tariff Review, the initial process involved Christopher having to decide how he could break down 3200 pages of legal documentation into sizable pieces that 14 departments could review. This was the planning stage and took him about 2 weeks to come up with a process in order to do a full review of the tariff to make sure that all departments (14) that owned section were within compliance. Additionally, he had to figure out a process going forward. (Planning). After coming up with a plan he then moved on to bringing the 14 department directors together and working out a timeline in which all parties could agree upon. They then put together a core team of reviewers, one from each department, and set a schedule for them to go by.
