Global warming can be described as the increase in the average temperature of Earth’s atmosphere, oceans and landmasses caused part by the greenhouse effect. The planet`s temperature continues to rise due to the rise of the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases retain the radiant energy (heat) provided to earth by the sun in a process known as the greenhouse effect. Greenhouse gases occur naturally and without them the planet would be too cold to sustain life as we know it. Carbon dioxide, a powerful greenhouse gas has risen by 35% since 1750, largely from the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas and because of the increase of gases such as this the atmosphere acts like a thickening blanket and traps more heat and due to this the earth becomes warmer. The different greenhouse gases include water vapor, carbon dioxide ...view middle of the document...
It can be said that population growth plays a major role in global warming because majority of the earth’s population is using the technologies which are destructive to the earth. In resent research it has been shown that approximately 80% of atmospheric carbon dioxide increases are due to man’s use of fossil fuels either in the form of coal, gas or oil.
There are many negative effects which will follow the phenomena of global warming which range from the melting of the polar ice caps and glaciers, as well as warming of the oceans this will cause the ocean volume and raises sea level which will eventually flood some coastal regions and even entire islands. Global warming will also affect the plant and animal species because some organisms will have to move from their current area to find cooler habitats and those species that cannot do so may become extinct. Changes in temperature and precipitation patterns may damage crops, and this will cause a reduction in food production in some parts of the world and because of this food costs will go up.
The planting of more trees and reducing deforestation worldwide will help reduce the problem of global warming .Also the reinforcement of different environmental policy such as ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ could help to promote the reuse of anything which would lower pollution which then will reduce the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the environment. The use of fuel efficient vehicles should be promoted even though they are more expensive these vehicles have lower emissions of harmful gases. The public should be informed about the importance of using more eco friendly technology in order to help lessen the effect of global warming. Significant reductions in carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere can also be achieved by switching away from fossil-fuel energy sources towards other sources of energy such as solar, wind, hydrogen fuel cell and nuclear energy. These alternative sources of energy would be more environmentally friendly because they don’t release any carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere.
