Nowadays, people like to spend their leisure time at cinema. Research has shown that for a high percentage of people the decision to go to the cinema is made almost spontaneously. As in Malaysia, almost 60% of the people would like to spend their free time at cinema. GSC (Golden Screen Cinema), being the largest cinema in the Malaysia, facing a lot of problem in managing cinema due to the increase of customer services. As observed, people like to hang out for movie in weekends, school holiday and public holiday. For one particular movie, half of the cinema seat is reserved for the online or tele-booking ticket. Without supportive and accurately of information, it take a lots of times to find a solution. The best decision cannot be taken due to lack of information. Therefore, there is a need for a decision support system to be developed to help cinema to solve the problem above by increasing the process of decision making and problem solving.
Now that the problem has been identified, once implemented, the system could bring about significant benefits. The benefits for cinemas management are:
(i) Reduce the time of decision making on movie managing
(ii) Provide supportive information on decision making which increase the efficient of work
(iii) Reduce human mistake on movie scheduling
(iv) Full optimization of cinema hall
(v) Increase revenue
The main challenge of the system is the way of the decision support system analyzes
business data and presents it so that users can make business decisions. It should be an real time system that gather and present data from wide range of resource. The others challenge would be the movie scheduling part where user can generate a efficient movie schedule based on the analysed information such as movie performance, duration of movie, available of cinema hall, movie information and much more. Based on the further research, I may develop my own algorithm for the proposed system. Research on different algorithm may help me to understand how scheduling works.
Another domain research and analysis is needed to understand the different type decision support system. Knowledge is required to develop the system structure and design. Some research will be done on programming language and implementation of the decision support system.
