Our self-concept can change when start aging up. Age is when we start to think about what people think about us from a young age and the development that was from the sense of their self. When you are a parent or a carer you will see from your point of view that your parents will have a really big impact towards your life, every single day, as it goes past, the way you develop through your life they will have an impact toward it. As you can see there are different expectations of behaviour of a man and a woman. They can change overtime, for example it is more acceptable that today most women are working outside their home, than they previously generation, but as you can see there are still ideas about the gender roles that can exist in the society. The value we are as a society place on these role we can have an effect on a person’s self-concept.
Culture is an effect on our development. It can be set of norms of behaviour which is many features of life including diet, morality, dress and genders roles. The can form a part of you socialisation process. When a group of people feel like they are getting discriminated against the due to their culture it will effect there self-concept. The attitude that other people have are important in how they are feeling about themselves, and it is important that we are aware of the culture have the differences when they are interacting with in a variety of people. People that work within the health and social care setting they will need to be aware of these differences so that they can deal with the service users in a sensitive manner.
They will need to have the experiences education at school that they can certainly affect how they feel about us. We will need to have education so that we can have achievements and that we can increase our self-esteem, but as you can see not everyone is successful in the school environment. Education can also be a challenge that we will have to value and give it to us as an opportunity to explore new ideas.
People that grow up in low income families may will be effect by their self-esteem, especially when they are surrounded by the images of people that have a lot of materials wealth.
