Although there are similarities to Jainism, Hinduism, and Buddhism, they are more different than they are alike. The three most popular religions in India in the early 5th century B.C.E., and arguably still very popular in the region today, all have ties to the early Brahmanic religion that they were formed from and in some cases attempted to separate themselves from 1.

Like Jainism, Buddhism went against the old teachings such as sacrifice and the Veda’s divine authority. Also unlike Hinduism, Buddhism did not follow the caste system that was firmly established in India. Buddha preached that followers could find enlightenment through the four noble truths and the eight fold path. One main teaching though this religion was the acceptance of sorrow and suffering in the world. Buddha understood that and persuaded people to go out to better themselves and attempt to gain Nirvana. Though its premise was to separate itself form the old teachings, Buddha however accepted reincarnation but adapted it to his teachings3.
The last religion that established itself after the Brahmanic religion was Hinduism. Though a different religion, it has its roots set deeply in the old religion, Brahmanism. It in many ways was similar to the other religions but one key difference was that it accepted the caste social system of India and furthered many to gain material goods as long as it was gained through the right way.
