The Revolution of 1911
Dear brothers and sisters of China, I highly appreciate this pleasant greeting with which you are honoring me today. Like I once said, “The Revolution has not yet succeeded. Comrades, you must carry on!†We don’t have what we want; we must continue to battle, until our government weakens, until they make a concession. The time has come for the country to change; the time has come for us to stand up for ourselves and fight for what truly belongs to us; the time has come for us to fight for freedom, for democracy.
Change is necessary! Do you want to continue to live under the Manchurians? Under the Ch’ing emperor? Do you want to ...view middle of the document...
Why do women have to suffer bound feet? Why doesn’t the government stop this cruel tradition? Why do parents have to maim their daughters so that they can marry well? We should protest for change peacefully. We should talk the government into coming over to our way of thinking and helping China to change. However, if the government doesn’t care and if they start the violence, in the interest of protecting ourselves, we MUST fight back.
If we are to accomplish a revolution, we must stand up for what we want, we must fight for democracy, for freedom. As I said when I spoke to you earlier, “An individual should not have too much freedom. A nation should have absolute freedom.†The government shouldn’t be...
