Introduction
Walt Disney is renowned successful company in the world for decades. Since the 1920’s the company have been responsible in providing endless family entertainment from cartoon characters, children TV show, blockbuster movies to amusement parks which caters to all ages. Its company main goal starting from top executives, down to bottom is to create a memorable, fun and magical experience for their entire guest as well as their employees. From a black and white cartoon character called “Mikey Mouse” the creator and his company grew to a global empire. During the early 1920’s Behavioral theorist orchestrated a study and developed a theory in order to help understand varieties of management conditions or situation. As well as to help explain certain behaviors of an individual worker by finding out what their motivation, conflicts, expectation, group dynamics and conflicts to help improved productivity. By improving the employees work environment, their morale will boost up that will results to increase in productivity of the group and becoming more efficient.
The Walt Disney encompasses the “best-in-class business standards” that are essential to their business practices according to the 2005 Moore interview with one of Disney CEO. They created a business standards and ethics training to be provided to all employees both domestic and international via on-line tutorial. Their training method ensure that all the employees that works for Disney across the globe acts ethically and legally base on the company’s standard business conducts. This is an effective way to save time, money and to keep every Disney cast member on the same page with the company missions and goals. Disney’s training techniques are falls under Scientific Management were the planning, organizing and coordinating activities came from one the top (commanding) down to the last staff members to access training materials available, and controlling their training performance accordingly. In short Disney’s training methods is centralized. The decision how the training method came from top management (Authority), there is Unity of direction were a single plan was implemented and all play their part by completing the course training, these some of Fayol “Principles of Management”. It is more task-oriented rather than people-oriented.
Although Classical Management Theory is clearly part of Disney’s success, the company methods also encourages and motivate employees to use their imagination, think outside the box and explore outside the conventional management styles which gears more toward Human Relation Management Theory also known as Behavioral Management.
