McDonalds is a great organisational example that illustrates the HRM functions by being able to see generation of the graduates that it employees. The company had looked at the generation of the graduates, as well as the year they had graduated. For an example the graduates of the year 2000 are seen as generation Y or ‘millennials’. Therefore McDonald looks for an approach that it sees is sensible, in addition it tuned its graduates development programme to meet the needs and attributes of these generation Y graduates. Jenner (2008) had suggested that the graduates should join an organisation, in order for them to be socialised to their new surroundings (Golden. J, et al, 2010: 423).
Microsoft is organisation that follows the function of the Human resource management, in terms of selection. The reason towards this would have to be the fact they see success in a different perspective than other businesses. For example they see forging greater links between universities and business as the ‘key to the higher- end skill issues’. However the company does not pick people due to the fact that they went to university, they would have to possess the right skills that would contribute to the business. Microsoft sends employers to work in the universities and schools to change the attitudes, as well as to stimulate demand among the young students for technology related degrees and career. The positive side to this does not have the fact that the job opportunity is only for the students, it also helps and supports the university to gain a reputation among the company, as well as help offer courses to future students. In addition its helping the university to teach the relevant subjects that actually comes in handy in job, especially when there’s a growing interest of students wanting to know about earnings, due to the fact that they are paying to study. (Golden.J, et al, 2010:421)
When it comes to recruitment there are several methods organisations use, for example recruitment documentation is a one easy way of determine how well the applicant is experienced, as well as fit for the job description. This is because the documentation depending on each organisation has different approach of asking the applicant a question. Moreover some organisations, particularly in the retail sector such as H&M, include a short questionnaire in which applicants are asked their preferred way of working. Most of these traditional applicant form consists of a series of multiple choice questions partly about personal life, such as how many sibling, as well as attitude, values and preferences. Moreover being able to ask these specific questions would then help the organisation to compare it to the ideal profile that they have which would then look at the similarities the applicants have with an effective job performing employee and non- effective employee. As a result would help them reach a conclusion towards weather accepting the applicant or...
