Discussion 2: “Skills of HR Professionals.” Students will respond to the following:
Describe the necessary skills of human resource professionals as they carry out
their tasks. Which do you feel are most important and which are nice-to-have?
Determine the ethical considerations that accompany these tasks.
Explain how a career in human resource management might be challenging.
The necessary skills that a human resource professional should possess as described in our text are:
1. Credible Activists- They should uphold integrity in all they do, builds trusting relationships, be knowledgeable and be able to influence others appropriately when needed.

The operational executor is needed to see to it that policies and procedures are fully enforced and team leaders are compliant ethically and legally. I think being cultural stewards and the skills it needs to be one are nice to have because you have the power to change a negative culture within a work environment to a positive one by encouraging innovations that employees can all be engaged in. To be able to identify a weakness in the culture of a work place and being able to step in and take control and strengthen culture should feel rewarding when you see the change in employees attitudes which affects job performance.
The ethical considerations that accompany these tasks are to always know right from wrong, know when to be objective in decision making and being able adhere to principles that are consistent with company’s policies, code of conduct and in accordance with the law. For example, if an employee was reported a sexual harassment claim, HR should take it seriously and fully conduct an investigation even though they have personal opinions on the claim.
