I am going to be comparing and contrasting the Harrapan and Babylonian civilizations. The two main characteristics I'm going to be focusing on is public works and job specialization. I hope after this presentation you have a better idea about these two civilizations and get a good understanding of public works and job specializations they had. ENJOY!!!
The Harrapan civilization was around ca. 3000-1500 BC. It is one of the most fascinating cultures of the ancient world. This culture was present in modern day Pakistan and northwestern India. The civilization was named after the capital city Harrapa. Harrapa and Mohenjo-Daro were known as the greatest achievement of this civilization. (Webchron)
Historians are said to be pretty sure that the
Babylonian civilization began around the 18th century B.C. and ended around ...view middle of the document...
Also it shows us that they had public works at the time. The well also shows us that people had specialized jobs because a normal person without any training can't go and just build up a well for the community. This picture also shows the characteristic of a well organized centralized government. This is because the government must've showed them how big the well had to be.
The government must have also told them the dimension of the well and the size of the bricks. They have to these rules and do the job properly. They had tools to make them the assigned shape and size.
In this picture we can see some walls and a gate at the beginning. I think it might be some kind of border used back at that time. The walls show that people had specialized in jobs, so they could do work instead of hunting for food. People only specialized in jobs because there was plenty of food so they could do other stuff. It also shows public works because the government has probably paid the public people to build the walls and gates.
Public works and job specialization are linked to each other. In the two civilizations you can see that every public work is combined with job specialization. This is because when a public work takes place, job specialization is needed. It is quite amazing that thousands of years ago the government had rules about how the shape and big the bricks had to be.
However the Harrapan civilization was very advanced to the Babylonia civilization. The 2 civilizations are very good.
