The scientific method’s five-step process of recognizing problem, developing hypotheses, designing a test experiment, analyzing the results, and sharing the information results is an appropriate method for solving the problems with the navigation system in the city of New Orleans (Light & Rolston, 2003). By recognizing that the water flow is not sufficient for the commerce through the canals the application of what is a better solution to divert the water into a different direction instead of building the current canals. A small-scale empirical testing of in what direction the water will flow and at what level of flooding has the least amount of impact on the city of New Orleans. Additionally, with the scientific method the analysis in the five-step process is where the factors of the how city officials can implement a more efficient notification process and evacuation routes for the residents of New Orleans.
