“Without sports would anyone believe in miracles?” (480) Sports are a part of the threads that make up our society. It plays a major role in our life and we do not even know it. Involvement in sports is extremely important, and should be encouraged more. Children and young people in particular need to do sports so that they develop good habits that they can continue into their adulthood. All in all, the fact that playing sports is good for us and extremely beneficial is completely undeniable and should not even be up for a debate.

A person’s self-esteem improves through sport as they discover things that they are good at and improve their body. Participating in any competitive sport also improves our ability to handle pressure and still be able to perform well, as well as teaching us how to win and lose graciously.
“Above all, every kind of athlete knows what many others never will, that nothing can be learned without discipline.” (494) Of course, sports are enjoyable and provide many opportunities for successful athletes, but there has to be a greater driving force that leads competitors who will never be premier athletes to compete and spend significant amounts of time training. The character built from participating and the experience and rewards of being part of a team, this is the true value of sports. These lessons often serve as a guide and platform for the success of an athlete in the real world. Those who are able to translate what they have learned in sports to their real life situations are able to achieve and progress swiftly because of their teach ability and experience.
Practically all my life I have played basketball and I have certainly reaped the benefits from athletic pursuits. The lessons I have learned from my sport have allowed me to accomplish things not only on the court but off. Playing a sport improved my capability and efficiency.
