 state
 that
 privatization
 overall
 is
 a
 bad
 model
 to
 pursue,
 not
  only
  there
  is
  no
  consensus
  over
  the
  costs
  benefits
  it
  purports
  to
  have,
  but
  trustworthy
  research
  shows
  that
  there
  is
  little
  or
  no
  benefit
  from
  privatization

  detrimental
  conditions
  for
  the
  inmates,
  poor
  health
  care
  and
  quality
  of
  confinement
  with
  exceptional
  cases
  such
  as
  Silverdale;

  increased
  investments
  on
  lobbying
  on
  behalf
 of
 the
 private
 prison
 corporations,
 and
 a
 substantial
 increase
 in
 the
 overall
  number
 of
 prisoners
 due
 to
 policy
 changes,
 contest
 the
 legitimacy
 of
 the
 whether
  the
  legislator
  is
  acting
  in
  the
  best
  interest
  of
  society;
  and
  finally
  it
  is
  pivotal
  to
  analyze
  the
  fact
  that
  private
  corporations
  are
  jeopardizing
  the
  maxim
  of
  imprisonment,
 and
 the
 ethical
 conundrum
 of
 profiting
 from
 this.
 
 
  On
 the
 one
 hand,
 companies
 that
 shift
 their
 strategy
 from
 a
 “Retain
 and
 Reinvest”
  to
  “Downsize
  and
  distribute”,
  shift
  from
  the
  actual
  business
  they
  are
  in,
  to
  sacrificing
  their
  core
  capabilities
  for
  the
  sake
  of
  presenting
  enhanced
  financial
  results,
  this
  not
  only
  diverts
  their
  attention
  from
  what
  their
  primary
  goal
  is,
  which
  is
 the
 long
 term
 sustainability
 and
 output
 of
 the
 firm,
 but
 actually
 makes
 their
 core
  competency
  the
  financial
  performance
  of
  the
  firm;
  the
  adaptation
  of
  the
  model
  has
  also
  negative
  externalities
  on
  society (Lazonick and O’Sullivan 2000).
