Abstract
In this Post Module Assignment I will be answering the questions stated in two parts, each part
addressing one question. In Part 1, I will be discussing the details of Operations Planning & Control
(Q.6) and taking the example in one part of the example of a company that I previously worked for in
India called Grasim Industries Ltd. In Part 2, I will be discussing the implication of People
management in the realm of Supply Chain Management (Q.5) by also taking the examples of
practices from the global logistics giant UPS to relate to how practices can be used to maximize
effectiveness in organizations.

Part 1
Question 6.
6.1 Implications of the question statement

Question Statement: Operations Planning and Control (OPC) is concerned with ensuring that the right
products are produced at the right time and at the right cost.

T

he implications of this statement go very
deep into how the configuration of
supply chains is set up. Right products
are associated with having the desired

level of quality in products in the right quantity.
This implies that the right products be created for
the customer and not selling products to the right
customers. The end result should be tailored to
satisfy the demands of the customers, and the
customer has many. One such requirement is also
of receiving the products at the right time, so that
they get what they need when they need it. This is
important because if the customer is left lingering
with demand, the dissatisfaction will reflect
poorly on the company also it gives competitors a
chance chime in and hence steal future business.

Control [Adopted from Class Notes; Higgins, J; Sept. 2014]

Thus timely delivery is imperative, as much so as having the right cost for products or services.
Lastly, ‘Right cost’ is ensuring that in the process of satisfying customer demand, the end result
should end in profit for the company. The goods or services must be tailored to satisfy customer
requirements but should be offered at a price which yields positive turnover for the company as
well. Truly a ‘win-win’ situation. (sub-part adopted from class noted by John Higgins; Oct 2014)
