Even though ineffective diversity management is one of the key drivers of dissatisfied employees, as an industrial organizational psychologist (I/O psychologist), one of the key functions is to improve employee satisfaction, but how is this done? The average working class person spends a third of their day (about 7.5 to 8 hours) on the job so its ideal to be a part of a pleasant environment. I/O psychologists should continue to create innovative ways to attract as well as retain motivated and goal oriented employees because rewards, recognition, accolades, and effective training programs promote job satisfaction and performance. It isn't a far fetched notion that interpersonal conflict can result in harassment and workplace bullying. This can be an issue that arises between co-workers as well as upper management. The majority of "bullies" hold leadership positions, including supervisors and managers (70-90%)(Comcare.gov.au, 2014). This can be due to the amount of rank and authority held within that position in a team environment. It is important to keep in mind that irregardless of the position held, disrespectful and offensive behavior can not be tolerated in an organizational environment. One of the reasons that this type of behavior cannot be tolerated is because in "2011 research examined the detrimental effect that interpersonal aggressive behaviors had on dimensions of team effectiveness, particularly with team performance and team viability... Data collected from 97 work teams (341 members and 97 immediate supervisors) working in a public safety organization. The results indicate that interpersonal aggression is negatively related to team performance and this study highlights potential negative consequences of interpersonal aggression at the team level." (Aube & Rousseau, 2011) This clearly indicates that interpersonal aggression (bullying) has a negative impact on not only the targeted victim, but the team as well. If a team within an organization is affected negatively by these acts of aggression, the organization itself is affected as well and this is bad for business.

Will workplace stressors like bullying and harassment ever be completely eradicated? One does not know, however what is known among I/O psychologists is that the overall happiness and safety an employee feels promotes a positive outcome and behavior pattern within the workplace. “In the most general sense, organizational psychology is the scientific study of individual and group behavior in formal organizational settings” (Jex and Britt 2008). Dennis Organ, the author of Organizational Citizenship behavior, researched and defines Organizational citizenship behaviors ("OCBs") as a form of productive behavior, it's shown to be beneficial to both organization and team effectiveness. Behaviors that qualify as "OCBs" fall into one of the following five categories according to Organ: altruism, courtesy, sportsmanship, conscientiousness, and civic virtue. (Organ, 1994) These behaviors displayed within an organizational team closely mimic a "family" like environment. Showing a lack of selfishness while putting others needs before one's own, continuous respect and kindness as well as gratitude all play a part in a happy and healthy work environment.
