Speech Reflection Paper
Doing an Informative speech was not an easy task at all but it was worth it after you finished it. This speech included an outline, scholarly sources, and a lot of hard work and preparation. My topic I chose was Internet dating, but I wanted to be a little more detailed and go into the new dating scam called Catfishing. After I finally was sure about my topic I began to search for sources. I actually had a very difficult time finding scholarly sources on Catfishing because since its fairly new there wasn’t any helpful scholarly information out of it. What I had to do was just use sources from Online dating that talked about Catfishing or gave some kind of information about online dating going wrong. After I finally collected all of my sources I began constructing my outline. Outline ...view middle of the document...
I thought that I projected well even though I was very nervous and I had thought I did a good job of explaining everything with the time limit and sources that I had. Some improvements that I need to work on is to slow down and try not to be so nervous. I always get nervous not because I’m in front of people but because I want a good grade so I tend to be harder on myself if I mess up and go over or under the time limit. I plan on next time to pace myself and try to slow down when I am speaking in front of the audience. Hopefully this improvement will help me seem more prepared.
I Think that I but a lot of time into this speech and I came very prepared but I also think if I would have practiced a little more I would not have been so worry about messing up and would have knew my material better. I chose the topic Catfishing because it was something that was actually interesting and fun to inform people about. Being interested in a topic also makes it a lot easier to actually get in to the assignment. For my attention getter I tried to use a funny story with actors in it to get the audience attention and also it helps me relax more when the audience laughs. My attention getter was related to my audience but mostly towards the girls about being put in a situation of being Catfished. It’s easier for the audience to understand and connect with the speaker when they are actually being brought into the speech. Plus it requires for the audience to actually think instead of just listening to a speech with a bunch of information.
In Conclusion I think with all the effort I put in I did a good job with my speech and outline but I could have done better. Choosing a topic, doing research, making and following an outline from the book, preparing, practicing, and note cards all came in play with my informative speech which helped me a lot and also guiding me through the way. Now that I have accomplished this task I hope I can improve from my mistakes and become a better speaker.
