E1. Goals
Goals are important to the success of a group. Goals are a major factor in motivation. Goals must provide task direction and help to achieve desired results. Goals should give a team something to reach for and align with the team’s mission and strategy. Goals must be specific and challenging and not general or unrealistic to accomplish. Our team realized the importance of goals in the beginning and that is why we were able to achieve every goal that was set in the initial meeting. The following were our goals that we set for the group:
1. Be prompt for all calls-each team member usually arrived 10-15 minutes early ...view middle of the document...

Another motivation strategy that the group used was to treat each other with respect and communicate effectively through positive reinforcement by thanking each other for their contribution to the group. Our group had no problem with our motivation strategies because we utilized our positive motivation through every aspect of our communication with each other.
E3. Influence Strategies
The team worked effectively together and our strategies from the beginning were effective throughout the process. We all realized on our first call that we were going to work well together and it was evident in the end with our progress. One of our influence strategies that we came up with was to be honest and ethical. It was important to our group that each one of us was honest if we could attend a meeting or if we needed to provide negative feedback on the handbook. Honesty, as we determined in the beginning, was very important to our influence strategy. We also agreed that any influence to the group had to have ethics involved. We decided that decisions were going to be made by the group with high ethics and our group maintained this high ethical standard throughout the process. Another strategy our team came up with in the beginning with influence was to use rational decision making. We agreed that there would be no aggressive behavior displayed with one another throughout this process that may lead to irrational decisions. The group agreed to talk through any issues that may arise in a calm and rational manner. Another influence strategy would be to be a team player and work together. Working together as a team was easy for my group because our influence strategies were right on target from the beginning and we all agreed upon them as a team. Our influence strategies proved to be effective because we met all deadlines that were set on time. Our calls/ meetings also reflected our effectiveness in our influence strategies because they were short in duration and informative.
E4. Communication Plan
It is crucial to have an effective communication plan when working in a virtual team. It is also important to determine the role of each individual with the communication plan. By determining who was going to be the team leader, facilitator, note taker, timekeeper and reviewer in the first meeting, it made a positive impact to the communication plan for this group. Our team’s communication plan was to communicate weekly via. phone and on a need basis through email. This plan was very effective for my group because it allowed us to schedule a specific time to set aside each week to discuss the leadership class. We were able to set-up a time that was convenient for each of us to focus on the call without outside distractions. With everyone effectively carrying out their role within the team, our calls were more organized, very productive and ended on time. Communicating through email was an effective strategy for our team. We all agreed...
