What was the culture at Lehman Brothers like?
In general, the culture at Lehman Brothers was founded upon the idea of the classical view of social responsibility: “that management’s only social responsibility is to maximize profits” (Robbins & Coulter, 2013, p. 147). Additionally, the leadership style of upper management appeared to be quite autocratic. There was a blatant disregard towards employees who attempted to question certain practices that looked suspicious. It appeared that the company’s main objective was to “make money at any cost”. The Lehman Brother’s clearly exemplified omission to any rules and regulations that governed the financial system in which they conducted business.

Were they being responsible and ethical? Discuss.
The executives were not being socially responsible or ethical. At the end of the day, the Lehman Brother’s main goal was lining the pockets of the executives. It was not in their interest to be socially responsible. The culture the executives created led to an unethical environment. It was this culture that promoted widespread corruption at the cost to internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, this organizational corruption reverberated through society causing a major shift in how we trust organizations to safeguard our investments. As a result of the Lehman Brother’s fallout, this mistrust may never be reversed.
