Legalization of Marijuana
I moved to Georgia when I was in the eighth grade, and it was at this time when I was first encountered with marijuana usage. The majority of the people there, whether they were smart, intellectually lacking, poor, rich, black, or white smoked weed. At the time this really shocked me because I knew nothing about it, and for me it was just another one of those “bad” drugs. However, now that I am informed of the reality of what marijuana really is, I have come to the conclusion that the only real problem with marijuana is the fact that it is illegal.
The strongest argument I have seen against the legalization of marijuana is the fact that it impairs one from their ...view middle of the document...
I found that smart students weed, and that it did not affect their motivation or drive to succeed, but was rather a relief of pressure and stress in their times of need. I have also had friends, one in particular who had a really hard time getting to sleep. He used to take outrages amounts of sleeping pills and other such drugs, and it became increasingly hard for him to get up or function in the morning. However, he tried marijuana at the end of his sophomore year, and he found that he could sleep easily without having the problems he had in the mornings. There are also many people I have encountered with serious issues happening in their life, and the use of marijuana truly helped them get through those times. Furthermore, after seeing people use it time and time again, and it helping them, I have come to the conclusion that it can be used for good purposes, and these purposes overcome the “bad” costs by an exceeding proportion.

It is the only substance I have ever witnessed make two people who completely hate each other, willingly and happily bond. If one were to try this same act, but instead under the influence of alcohol, the outcome would most likely end in a fight. Marijuana, though it might have a certain time or place that it should not be used, has good effects for many people.
In addition to the good affects cannabis may have on peoples emotional health, the legalization of it has potential economic benefits. Marijuana is relatively inexpensive to grow, has a large user base, and can be sold for high prices. The government could control which people would be allowed to grow, sell and buy it, and would be able to tax the product for more government funds. The legalization of it would also cause many jobs in production, distribution, and selling. Furthermore, not only should it be legal because the pros outweigh the cons for the individual, but it would be good economically, especially in our nation’s time of struggle.
It seems that weed being illegal is causing more problems than it is solving from a personal scale to a national one. I had this really good friend who tried marijuana right after he graduated at the end of my junior year of high school. Afterword, he would indulge in smoking occasionally, and he continued this as he went into...
